"What is Your Real Work?" Professional Development for Women
"Your work is to discover your work and then with all your heart to give yourself to it."
- Buddha
YEAR 4! Blair runs the "What is Your Real Work?" Professional Development workshops for women on a seasonal basis, see scheduled upcoming dates below. Workshops can be attended on a singular basis, however, the entire series is designed so that by the end of it, each woman will emerge with: a greater sense of personal authority; a clear path to satisfying work and pleasure; a tribe of support backing her; confidence in her ability to direct her life, and an array of effective tools she can use to get her where she wants to go, or to get moving again when she gets stuck.
Blair will schedule the series below privately for organizations or small groups of women that want to participate in seasonal pieces of growth together. Call for more info.
I. What is your real work? An exploration of sisterhood, self-expression and personal power in the "work"place
October 12-14, 2012; 2013 coming
An intimate weekend workshop for women exploring the themes of power, growth and self-expression as it pertains to work, and I mean that word (work) on all the levels that it exists. Whether you have a literal job that you would like to feel more connected to, or you are moving in a new and unknown direction, this workshop is an opportunity to come together as conscious women to connect with each other, nature and ourselves, for the purpose of exploring the role of work in our lives. We will play with and create tools to help you:
• Get clear on what it is you want to express in the world
• Explore the notion of "work" and your relationship to it
• Stir up opportunities for work that inspire you
• Broaden your faith in yourself and your ability to manifest and accomplish
• Move through the world with greater confidence, ease and grace
Where: SpiritPlay Studio in Woodstock, NY.
Cost: $600 includes organic, homemade, healthful food and dorm-style housing in the studio. Rooms are available at an extra cost. A list of nearby B and B's is available for those wanting to stay off site.
II. Holding Your Own, A Workshop for Women
The second in a series of workshops for women revolving around "work" related issues (see description of first in series above, attendance at first not required), this workshop usually is in the winter and utilizes the cold, stark landscape of winter to explore what it means to hold one's own: inside yourself and in relationship. Do you lose your voice and/or composure in arguments? Do you spend more time than needed in a state of inner collapse, with negative thoughts about yourself running the show? Do you want to stop conversations that go in a loop and get you nowhere? In sisterhood we will increase personal freedom, self-confidence and authority at work and in relationship by practicing negotiating difference from a grounded and non-reactive place. We will go within to the source of our inner strength and cultivate the stillness that winter reflects, accessing the parts of ourselves that help us to stand strong in our leadership. We will join in a shared and in-depth exploration of the following questions:
• What causes me to collapse into self hatred?
• What is the difference between "direct" and "mean-spirited"?
• How do I negotiate difference in relationship, without getting stuck in old patterns and reactive emotions?
• What can winter teach me about transcending difference, transforming loneliness and achieving my goals?
• How do I keep the fire of hope alive if and when it seems like nothing is happening?
When: January 18-20, 2013
Where: SpiritPlay Studio in Woodstock, NY -- 2 hours North of NYC
Cost /accommodations: $600 includes home-cooked, organic (wherever possible) healthful meals and snacks, and dorm style accommodations (mattresses and airbeds are supplied, bedding and pillows must be brought). There are many B&B's nearby for those interested in staying off-site.
III. Character Development

We will join in sisterhood for a shared and in-depth exploration of:
• What is integrity?
• What are the roles I enjoy embodying most and what are the default roles I resort to that work against me?
• What is the impact I am looking to have in my immediate world, and on the world in general?
• What are the talents, styles and flavors that I want to use to enhance my presence and accent my expression of myself in the world?
• How can I practice engaging narratives, archetypes and other aspects of my creativity in becoming who I want to be?
• How do I establish and commit to honoring my priorities?

IV. The Work of Rest: PLEASURE AND PLAY
The fourth in a series of workshops related to work (series attendance not required), The Work of Rest is perhaps the most important of the series! Are you addicted to work and struggle with how to make useful choices in the daily juggle of work, family, creativity, alone time? What is a healthy work/life balance for YOU? In a country in which we all are always working too hard, it is imperative that we learn how to rest, temper anxiety, experience true and deep pleasure, and know how to play. We will join in sisterhood for a shared and in-depth exploration of:
• What keeps me from experiencing pleasure, and how can I authorize myself to move towards it?
• What is the function of play in my life, and how can I engage more fully in it?
• What is the relationship between sexuality and power?
• What is the right work / life balance for ME and what structures can I use to effectively keep it?

Testimonials from Lovers and Leaders
"The last six months threw big challenges my way-- I was laid off from my job, and went through a cancer diagnosis and surgery. Lovers & Leaders helped me not only get through both of these situations, but actually emerge on the other side with the confidence to start my own business, take steps to feel stronger in my body, and stay in-tune to all the love in my life."
- A.J., Non-profit consultant, age 26
"Since joining Lovers & Leaders, I have gotten much better at taking the time to calm down and to listen to what my body wants. The grounding exercise we do at the beginning of every session helps me clear my head, relax, and be more open to listening to my own body and to what the other members of the group have to share. I am learning how to question myself in such a way that can be difficult but is almost always useful. I have taken a hard look at the meaning to me of pleasure, resignation, and fantasy. I also receive an incredible amount of reinforcement from the other women in the group. And I feel comfortable sharing anything with them, knowing that the response will always be loving and supportive."
-C.M., writer, 37
"Lovers & Leaders has been an amazing growth opportunity for me. In the company of amazing and powerful women, I've learned so much about myself as a leader in business and as the leader of my own life - a concept that sounds strikingly simple and yet has been a struggle for me. In a comparatively short time, I've grown significantly, making realizations that have helped me steer my own destiny in a way that feels aligned with my own truth."
- L.S., 38, is a VP at a global financial firm.
Testimonials from the Work Workshop Series
“Earlier on in the workshop, I sensed that something powerful was happening and I walked away from our first weekend together knowing that something deep was shifting inside of me. Yes, I felt welcomed and cared for, and was pleased with the environment and our surroundings in nature. But I also felt a deep sense of personal tailoring. My sense was that Blair had created a basic outline for our journey, but was extraordinarily open to meeting us each where we were and tuning the workshop as we went along. I was anxious about the loose structure; where was my agenda, outline, handouts, workbook and name badge? What kind of workshop is this? But as we went along, I could see the value in allowing things to unfurl organically. I was able to explore my beliefs and emotions more deeply this way, without the safety of shutting myself down in order to go along with a prescribed agenda. I have returned to my life after each workshop a different person; someone closer to authenticity.” [Read More...]
I've learned to see where I compromise my vision, sometimes wisely, and sometimes to my detriment. I've learned to really see other people, my affect on them, and their affect on me and to do a better job at exposing myself even at the risk of discomfort or rejection. This was sometimes extremely uncomfortable. But they were risks I'd never learned to take and my unwillingness to put myself out there is a big part of my stagnation.
At the core, these workshops have given me the opportunity to be an independent young woman, and I have really grown and grown up as a result. I am so proud of myself and amazed at how powerful I am.
–TR, 36, Left finance, got a more flexible and creative job in the production industry, with pay raise 4 months after first workshop
“The entire weekend was an incredibly positive experience. I learned a lot about myself, and learned even more from the group of women that were there. I felt a powerful connection with everyone, and it was certainly a safe space to explore some very deep topics and emotions. I also really felt present during the whole weekend. I'm glad that I stayed over in the studio; it allowed me to leave the rest of my life and concerns at home and plunge into the work of the workshop. I am grateful for the experience.” [Read More...]
I really enjoyed the collection of women that came together for the workshop. It was a perfectly assembled group, and everyone had a lot to offer each other. I loved the home-cooked, healthy meals and sharing them with everyone. It helped to have mealtimes to bond with each other. It was also great to spend time outside in nature, especially with the beautiful colors of fall.
The most important piece of this workshop was what you brought to it, Blair. You created the space for powerful work to be done, and connected women that really should be connected with each other. Your facilitation style is very effective. You know how to allow things to progress on their own, while maintaining structure, and I loved that you found ways to teach throughout. Thank you for welcoming us into your home and providing us with the tools to face the world.
– JR, age 24, is a series graduate who went from working as an assistant to realizing her desire to be a nutritionist. She was accepted at Columbia and is now pursuing a Master's Degree in her new chosen career.
“I wanted to shift in a big way, I would say I got what I wanted! I am more resolute about being some kind of coach/counselor, since I got home I have been playing with different ideas of how to get there. I am not sure how it will play out, but I feel more energy and passion about it as opposed to reasons why I "can't". The feeling of possibility is leading the way even though there is still a certain level of fear and doubt, but honestly I don't expect those feelings to be gone after a weekend! Let's just say that the tone has been set and I am on my way!”
-Susan Marco, 53, Long Branch, NJ, Massage Therapist/Spiritual Health Facilitator. Contact Susan through my Contact Page if you want to know more about her experience
“I almost didn't attend the first Work workshop because I wasn't wanting to look at my work in the literal employment sense . . . I had no idea that my true ‘work' for this year would actually be growing up and finding the me who has been buried alive and screaming to be released, seeking my attention and to allow for the space and healing needed to step into the woman I always knew I was inside. Interestingly enough, now that my “woman” is coming forth, I am finding myself to be dissatisfied with my employment situation. Women in this group and Blair have shown up for me in ways that I didn't know were possible and also taught me about what effective boundaries can look like. This work has also challenged many of my assumptions about myself and relationships.”
– RN, 35, Lawyer who got an exciting new, high-powered job in politics, with a four day work week so that she has time to develop her budding healing practice; series graduate. Contact R.N. through my Contact Page if you want to know more about her experience
